I find little reason to agree with Mr. Thompson.
Nevertheless, we are Christians, and we should _mourn_
for what will happen to a senseless people who stubbornly
pursue a suicidal course against all reason. If Afghanistan
seeks to engage the US military, Afghanistan will ultimately
be pulverized and many names will be completely obliterated
from all remembrance. It is a tragedy when a leadership has
lost all sense of reason and has become that proud. I would
expect a brutal conflict, but (with nearly absolute certainty)
they will be relentlessly slaughtered.
We do not need such so-call "religious"(?) zealots in the world,
and responsible leadership will strongly oppose such aberrant
behavior with every means at their disposal. But we should be
praying for wisdom on the part of the leadership (throughout the
world). As Christians, our desire should be in seeing that
callous criminals are brought to justice, not that a whole
nation is annihilated because of the irrational folly of a
few nefarious felons.
It does look like Pakistan's leadership may have recognized
the importance of their leadership role in this tense moment
in history. That remains to be seen, but in God we must trust
and lift up our prayers.
By Grace alone we proceed,
Wayne
