I have said numerous times, but it bears repeating, that this is a
fundamental problem which
is at the root of a great deal of confusion about scripture - the assumption
that texts can be true and authoritative only if they are accurate accounts of
real historical events or scientific phenomena.
Of course the diversity of scripture does include historical accounts, but it
includes many other genres too. As long as accurate historical narrative is
sassumed to be the default setting, great amounts of time will continue to be
wasted with pointless concordist schemes.
