My friends and fellow ASA members:

As Program Chair for the 2001 American Scientific Affiliation Annual
Meeting, I am notifying you of an important opportunity.

ASA is making a major effort to encourage students (undergraduate and
graduate) to participate and present at the ASA Annual Meeting at Kansas
State University from July 20 to 23.

A substantial amount of money is available for student scholarships for the
2001 annual meeting. Students receiving scholarship aid will be required to
be a student member of ASA, to present a paper (poster or oral), and to
    participate in the full meeting.

If you are, have, or know of a student who has been involved in a
significant research project in the sciences (natural, physical, or social),
technology, or engineering, please encourage them to submit an abstract and
    application.

Information about the 2001 Annual Meeting at Kansas State University can be
found on the ASA web page at http://www.asa3.org/. The site also includes
instructions for submitting abstracts and an application form for requesting
    scholarship aid.

The majority of the student papers will be given as poster presentations,
however there may be an opportunity for some oral presentations. If you
would like to be considered for an oral presentation, please indicate that
    on the application form.

The application deadline (March 1st) for student (undergraduate or
graduate) abstracts is approaching. If you or one of your students will be
submitting an abstract to the ASA office, please notify me by e-mail ASAP at
jsheldon@messiah.edu. Provide the presenter's name, institution, title of
the paper, and whether they are an undegraduate or graduate student.

The ASA annual meeting provides a great opportunity for young scientists to
network and meet others in their field. It also provides an opportunity for
them to be challenged by leading scientists to strive for excellence as they
serve their Lord through their chosen career.

Please support ASA this year by encouraging a student to submit an
    abstract.

    Sincerely,

Joe Sheldon, Program Chair for 2001
