"Kansas Decision on Evolution is Censorship", says Discovery
Institute--an Intelligent Design Think Tank
SEATTLE, Feb. 15/ -- In a statement released yesterday,
intelligent design spokesman Mark Edwards said, "The Kansas
decision to impose naturalism on students in the name of science
will not end the new debate over life,s origins. It is unfortunate that
students will learn nothing of this controversy from the teachers
most fit to educate them. What is heralded as the triumph of
science is instead a victory for censorship and viewpoint
discrimination. This is not what science, or America, is about;
discussion of the dissenting scientific opinion on Darwinism should
be allowed in science classrooms."
In approving the new standards, the State Board voted down
revisions that would allow for discussion of evidence against
Darwinism. "Teachers are not free to teach the controversy
surrounding life's origins", said John Calvert, managing director of
the Intelligent Design Network, the local group who brought forth
the revisions. "The new standards explicity prohibit inferring design
from evidence in nature, even if such an inference is justified. The
public has been led to believe that all scientific conclusions are
logically and empirically based. In fact, those regarding origins are
exclusively naturalistic and are driven by philosophy." John Calvert

***Discovery Institute supports the theory of intelligent design.
Intelligent design challenges the naturalistic notion that life is the
result of a purely purposeless process. By sponsoring research
and scholarship, Discovery Institute promotes a scientific challenge
to Darwinian theory. For recent works see "Icons of Evolution" by
Jonathan Wells [Regnery, 2000] which shows the
missrepresentations, errors, and frauds behind the textbooks
evidences for Darwinism, and "Signs of Intelligence: Understanding
Intelligent Design" by William Dembski [Baker/Brazos, Feb.
