Actually, I've heard some TEs (including Denis Lamoureux) say that
Paul Nelson knows a lot about science, especially about evolutionary
theory and the empirical data regarding evolution.

Then having a "real scientist" wouldn't have made much difference?
Yes, it would certainly have been interesting to have Kurt Wise say
what he (as probably the most scientifically sophisticated YEC) thinks
about this. I've heard that Kurt is dissatisfied with the classical
Morris-type foundations of YEC science, and would like to place it
on a firmer scientific foundation. But if this is done thoroughly,
the conclusion may be that "YEC science just doesn't work."
