Maybe we all could use a refresher. Cogniitive dissonance is the "remorse"
one may feel as a result of choosing a particular alternative which in turn
precludes any other alternative. If we choose to marry someone, that
prohibits
marrying anyone else. Any sense of loss we might feel because we have shut
the door on other possible help mates is "cognitive dissonance."

Probably, it has nothing to do with the Fall, just another part of our natural
psyche.

We also tend to reject authority, we desire to be the "master of our own
fate."

Ah, and we don't like personal accountability very much either. Rejecting
the authority of Scripture on the basis of what may appear as contrary
evidence
has the effect of drawing a "Get Out of Jail Free" card.

Or, Jewish kind in general.

Well, for Adam's sake. The judgment against Adam's kin was carried
out, and Noah's kin are the faithful remnant spared the flood.

And, indeed, no flood has befallen the children of Israel since the time of
Noah.
