Because as we come to understand the physical universe better and better, we
also come to understand how surprising simple it all is. Only a relative
handful of physiochemical forces control this whole seemingly chaotic
universe. As we learn to manipulate these forces, we are producing effects
and results that our ancestors would have considered miracles. Given
sufficient time and a bit of luck, we should understand enough to be able to
make our own life, planets, stars, even galaxies. And if we understand how
the universe originated, we should eventually be able to make our own
universes as well.
