Carboniferous coals are very rare on all the Gondwana continents (Australia,
Africa, South America, India, and Antarctica). They are so minor that, to the
best of my knowledge, none are being mined. They can hardly be said to "cover
portions of every continent"! Is this northern hemisphere chauvinism?
