George Murphy has responded to this, but I want to add something more,
because Art's claim seems so obvious on its face that we Christians may
forget something very wonderful:
'If anyone is in Christ he is a new creation; the old has passed away,
behold, the new has come.' 2 Cor. 5:17
In Christ a person can rise above his or her origins. Indeed, the
whole message of the Gospel -- the good news -- is that we are not bound or
limited or determined by our origins. Our God is a Creator, but this
creation is ongoing, and He is a living God. His creations are not only in
the past, in Genesis. They are new every morning. They are in the future,
as well as in the past.
So you can forget about 'the origin debate'. Whether it was in the
dust of Adam or the dust of stars, that is not important. Look forward,
far into the future, when God will bring a new heaven and earth into being
out of nothing -- this too is Creation.
Creation in the fullest sense is a Christian -- as opposed to a merely
theistic -- doctrine. Because the ultimate 'origin' is Christ: the Alpha
and Omega.
"For he has made known to us in all wisdom and insight the mystery of
his will, according to his purpose which he set forth in Christ as a plan
for the fullness of time: to unite all things in Him, things in heaven and
things on earth." Eph. 1:9-10 RSV.
