I do refer to myself as a creationist and I would argue that all
orthodox Christians are indeed creationists because we all believe
that God is the Creator. Doesn't the Apostle's Creed begin...
"I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
the Creator of heaven and earth"
That's why I use the "young-earth" modifier when referring to those
who hold that common type of belief about creation and HOW IT OCCURRED.
That's the distinction that many young-earth types don't want to
acknowledge. I'm NOT rejecting God, the creation, the Bible, etc. when
I reject their ideas on how and when creation occurred. I believe in God,
I humbly acknowledge Him as the Creator of all there is, and I believe
in the Bible (yes, even Genesis 1-11). The only real difference is our
exegesis of a handful of verses.
So I will continue to tell people that I am a creationist in the sense
that I believe God is the creator and am not willing to allow young-earth
creationists (a subset of all Christianity) to appropriate that term for
themselves thereby implying that most Christians don't believe that God is
the Creator.
