You raise an interesting point. Do we give God credit for
everything positive and blame everything bad on the sinful
nature of mankind? Are there any scientists out there who
would like to test this premise in the lab?
I believe Jesus answered the question as to whether physical
defects, and presumably genetic defects, result from sin when
he healed the blind man.
John 9:2,3: "And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who
did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?
Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents:
but that the works of God should be made manifest in him."
Notice too that the miracles God and Christ performed always
achieved the result. When Jesus changed water into wine, it
was the best wine.
It is my belief that we best honor God by attributing nature's
successes as well as nature's failures to nature. Of course,
God governs. Of course, God cares. And I even believe God in
His foreknowledge knows the end results - that He sees the end
from the beginning. But if He truly knows then it isn't necessary
for Him to continually take remedial action to ensure a desired
result.
This notion of a "control tower" God, advocated by the ID crowd
has another dark side. It also calls our accountability into
question. If God is so deeply involved in the intricacies of
emerging life forms that He personally designs every feature,
then at what point does He disengage? If God micro manages my
physical character, is He also micro managing all my personal
affairs such that He entirely controls my environment? At which
point how would I be accountable for anything?
It's not that God couldn't intervene in the procession of life
or dabble in DNA if He wanted to, I just don't think He does.
I further believe that attitude is consistent with what biologists
think and consistent with Bible teaching.
