The classical doctrines of providence include not only God's
action of "sustaining" creatures, but also "cooperation" (God as 1st
cause acting with & through creatures as 2d causes) and "governance".
Including God's action in these ways, & especially cooperation, is no
minor thing. It is a statement of faith that God is active in
everything that happens in the world.
