ASA news releases

Regarding the possible function of news releases, I reiterate what I stated
earlier. They should announce news of upcoming (or just completed) ASA
activities. Why not broadly publicize the ASA/Templeton lecture series, or
the the ASA annual meetings. Many ASA members have participated in
conferences and lecture series not directly sponsored by the ASA. Some ASA
members have also recieved distinguished honors from professional
societies.

While these items are included in the newsletter, they should also see more
widespread exposure. News releases _should not_ be position papers on
current issues for reasons already stated.
