There's a nice treatment of possibilities by Davis Young in Christian Scholar's
Review about a year ago. If interested I'll put parts of it on the reflector.

I see it as either or. Either we have an historical Adam, who can be
somewhat substantiated by ancient literature, from whom we cannot all
descend, or we all
descended from one man (Y chromosome "Adam") who could not be historical, is
unlikely to be the Adam of Genesis, and must have had natural parents.

Pick one.
