SUBJECT:2002 Call for Papers

FROM
: Edward B. Davis and Sara MilesProgram Chairs

TO: All members

Be sure to put the ASA Annual Meeting (August 2-5, 2002) on your calendar now! We welcome contributed papers and poster presentations on all topics related to Science and Christianity, though special consideration will be given to historical papers dealing substantively with important Christian scientists from the past. Emphasis will also be given to symposia and panels organized by the commissions and to papers and posters submitted by young scientists, graduate students, and advanced undergraduate students, in an effort to encourage future Christian pioneers in science. A limited amount of funding is available to defray conference expenses for students; for further information, contact either of the program chairs (tdavis@messiah.edu and smiles@eastern.edu) after you submit your abstract (see below). All recipients of such funds must be members of the ASA as of March 1, 2002.

Papers should be based on work in your area of expertise. Where this is not obvious, you may be asked to provide suitable documentation. Please observe the Requirements and Guidelines for Abstracts presented below. If you have a proposal for an additional symposium or group of papers, please contact either of the program chairs by Dec. 1, 2001.

This Call for Papers is designed to be copied and posted. Besides planning your own participation, please personally invite non-members to submit proposals and to attend.

Requirements and Guidelines for Abstracts
:

1.Regular contributions (both papers and posters) must be submitted as abstracts of 200250 words. Persons with access to the Internet are expected to use the on-line submission form available at http://129.82.76.41:591/asa_presentations/application.html (Please note that there is an underscore character between "asa" and "presentations" in the URL.) Those lacking access to the Internet may mail the Program Response Form to the ASA office by January 10, 2001. (ASA, P O Box 668, Ipswich, MA 01938)

a. Undergraduate students presenting posters must use the on-line submission form and have until March 1, 2001 to submit abstracts.

b. The abstract should emphasize what is new and important in your presentation and contain as much detail of the work as possible within the 250-word limit. The abstract and the presentation should be intelligible and clear to non-specialists. If submitted by mail, the abstract must include the following information as a header: Name, Address, Phone Number, and email address (if any).

2. Authors may present only one paper, but they may be included on other multiple-authored papers. Limitations on program space may require some individuals submitting requests for oral paper to present posters; the chairs will notify such persons as soon as possible.

3. Contributed oral papers will be accorded a time slot of 20 minutes, plus 5 minutes for discussion.

4.A separate time and space has been assigned for poster presentations. Authors of poster exhibits will be supplied with detailed instructions upon acceptance of their abstract.

5.To be included in the final program, presenters must register for the meeting when they receive the Registration Brochure.
Members with Internet access should not use this form!
Others should mail this completed form along with your abstract to:
