Camping in the Hamilton Area
There are two conservation areas in the Hamilton Region which offer camping.
• The one I would recommend and have used is Valens Conservation Area. It is 30–40 minutes northwest of Hamilton (map & driving), has 220 sites, and you can reserve by email, valens@conservationhamilton.ca.
• The other is Fifty Point Conservation Area, on Lake Ontario, email fiftypoint@conservationhamilton.ca. It has fewer sites, more for RV activity.
The web site for both (Valens & Fifty Point) is www.conservationhamilton.ca — other pages for Valens Conservation Area are from Conservation Hamilton & Ontario Conservation Areas & Trip Advisor & Valens Conservation & RU Reviews — and for Fifty Point Conservation Area (driving).
• There are a number of private campgrounds in the area. Some that appear to allow short term camping are:
Emerald Lake Trailer Resort (photos)
Flamboro Valley Camping Resort
Olympia Village Campground
John Bayus Park
They are all about ½ hour away from McMaster.
There are others that are longer term and RV situations, but may be worth a check. You can find them all, including the above, at www.tourismhamilton.com. / Please note, you will see Ponderosa Nature Resort. It sounds nice, and it is, if you are a nudist (“family nudist camping”…don’t forget your bug spray).
