The city of Chicago offers many opportunities for tourism, both during the day and at night.  See the Explore Chicago website.

Here are some ideas to help guide your search:

Millennium Park was opened early in this new millennium, and features the scenery of gardens, fountains, and the famous Cloud Gate (pictured below), as well as the architecture of surrounding buildings. The Pritzker Auditorium is there, sometimes with free shows. Segway tours starting at Millennium Park can be a great way to see the sights.

The Art Institute of Chicago displays world class art, and is near Millennium Park along Michigan Ave.

For shopping, the Magnificent Mile (Michigan Ave, north of the river) offers a variety of large historic department stores.

A scenic overview of the region can be obtained from the sky deck atop Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower), as well as the Hancock Observatory atop the Hancock Building along the Magnificent Mile.

There are an abundance of live plays and musicals showing at theaters in Chicago.  The Theater District includes four of the most spectacular theaters within a few blocks.

A number of boat tours are offered along the Lake Michigan waterfront or along the Chicago River.  The Chicago Architecture Foundation river cruise is particularly popular, and provides an excellent view of the city.
